Sam I am wrestling with this as well. It seems there is a debate in CRT about whether or not it would be viable for a nominally "white" person to stop identifying with that category. DiAngelo for instance rejects this because it would be "color-blindness," while Chatterton Williams implores people to do it. But I don't think it is color-blindness, since it requires a deeper and ongoing interrogation of one's self ---how they speak and think of themselves and a dismantling of an "us" vs "them" attitude. It's not for me the same as "not seeing race" or racism. What are your thoughts on this tension?
